Detained: Rights of children and youth under the Mental Health Act
About this resource
A new report from the BC's Child and Youth Representative addresses involuntary detention of youth under the Mental Health Act and makes 14 recommendations, mostly to the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions and Health Authorities, for changes to better respect child and youth rights.
Detained: Rights of children and youth under the Mental Health Act raises the need for a comprehensive system of culturally appropriate and youth-specific voluntary community services, so involuntary detention is only used as a last resort.
